Terry Harrison: Paint In Acrylics Using Oil and Watercolor Techniques To Create Two Easy Trees

Acrylics, Beginner, Featured, Painting | 04 Oct, 2012

Artistsnetwork.tv favorite, Terry Harrison, clearly demonstrates through the use of Acrylic paint, how to effectively achieve ‘trees’ adopting  watercolor and oil painting techniques. Through this tutorial you can expect to achieve transparent washes, blend thick opaque color, add mediums to thicken and thin color and incorporate brushstrokes into the composition. The result, two extremely quick and lifelike trees. Impressed!!?

    1. hmm I understand acrylics use water medium but I as a painter who uses acrylic i never did viewed it that way. for one i paint as if my acrylics were oils in every way even when thinning. it really depends on the painter and skill level also i guess. in example to using both Flemish and alla prima instead of waiting for it to dry. then again its sometimes is nicer when it is dry

    2. You did it in 3 minutes… It takes 10 minutes for me to make a tree and then when I take a better look at it I say to myself: What on earth is…. THAT!? Then I get off the drawing, throw it to the bin and start all over again!

    4. When deciding what style of network internet marketing to carry out, pick a business with items that are of interest to you. Your very own private like or dislike to get a merchandise will show to possible customers, and affect your selling ability.

    5. SWEET! I love art. And I don’t often say it- but I’m so glad I’m good at it! I’m always open for improvement! Thank you for the awesome tree! I love learning new things. I’ll keep the difference between wet and dry paint layering in mind!

    6. With acrylic, sometimes it is not the brush, but how much water you use. Also a factor is how long the paint is on your pallet. Acylic can age. First use a mister to keep the paint moist. Also, I suggest you get a sealable pallet. It will save you money, and paint.

    7. Glad it worked out for you. Here is another advice for you. If you need to cover any mistake that you can’t live with, make sure you cover it with Titanium white first, let it dry, then come in with the color. much easier to cover.

    10. Dear Terry HarrisonYou have become my personal Albus Dumbledore. You are a genius and I have learned so much in so little time. I am a broke musician from NYC and I’m sure that the things you teach us are way better than any school that costs a fortune. And your awesomeness is all for free. Thank you so much. You inspire me to keep being creative and therefore happy!

    11. Thankyou for your book, Mr. Harrison. I was about to give up watercolour out of sheer frustration, then ‘Watercolour Landscapes’ showed me the most basic techniques that none of my art tutors could never teach me, and now I’m enjoying myself again. Your use of colour is also very inspiring 🙂
