Here the basic colour theory in the color wheel is explained. There are 12 hues of the spectrum including warm and cool hues, primary, secondary and tertiary colors.
The Colour Wheel has 12 Hues of the spectrum
The following are warm Hues: Yellow,Yellow-orange,Orange,Red-orange,Red,Red-violet
These are the cool hues: Violet,Blue-violet,Blue,Blue-green,Green
There are three primary colours which are, Red, Yellow and Blue. These colours cannot be made from any other colours. The triangle that they perform on the colour wheel is called the primary triad.
When two primary colours are mixed they form what is called a secondary colour which are:
- red & yellow = Orange
- yellow & blue = Green
- red & blue = Violet
Orange, green and Violet form the secondary triad.
When a primary colour is mixed with a secondary colour a tertiary colour is made:
- yellow & green = Yellow-green
- green & blue = Blue-green
- blue & violet = Blue-violet
- violet & red = Red-violet
- red & orange = Red-orange
- orange & yellow = Yellow-orange
