Peter Dranitsin: How To Paint Abstract Art

This is an absolutely stunning abstract art tutorial where abstract paints artist Peter Dranitsin demonstrates to you how you can produce some visually stunning abstract art using an array of of different art tools and materials.

The art tutorial begins with Dranitsin applying generous amounts of blue acrylic to the centre of his canvas with a medium/large flat artist’s acrylic paint brush. He then comes in with purple acrylic paint around the edges before coming in with his sponge to do some light blending work which begins to create a central focal point upon the canvas.

Following this he uses a variety of scrapers, textured edge tools and a bigger selection of artist sponges to quickly help realise his abstract piece upon the canvas. He layers his paint, overlaps his acrylics and isn’t afraid to retain the texture within his piece. The final result is a piece of unique abstract art which anybody can do which would look fantastic in you own home.

    1. thanks for the lesson, a lot of interesting techniques in there, and i love many of your paintings. i was to paint something for the side of the staircase so i’m thinking multiple panels following the line of the stairs with one huge painting to cover both sides.that’s going to end up been about 10 square meters of painting so to save money i was going to use paint from the building shop. just normal acrylic wall paint on canvas or maybe gypsum board. do you see a problem with that?

    2. The quality of paint determines how the painting will look after the paint is dry and over time. Good quality acrylic paint will preserve the high intensity of the color where the low quality paint will dim the colors significantly besides the fact that if you want to get the structure out of the paint by layering thick coat it will crack eventually .

    3. thanks, i actually made a typing mistake on my message, i meant to say normal latex wall paint. the problem is i am making several large wall panels using your painting techniques and i think i will need about 5-10 liters of paint, so i think i need to try wall paint to save money. but thanks for the advice.

    5. I have never painted before, but am finding myself called by it strongly. Just out of curiosity, do you have a conception of what you want the final product to look like, and which colours you are going to add? Or do you simply play with the shapes and colours until it feels right to you? Beautiful work!

    6. I LOVE IT!! I have done a couple of paintings myself, but I find myself being a neat freak, but this has shown me to just be free with your hands! Thank you so much for the tips, I will think of how you just go with flow and not try to be so careful in my lines. THANK YOU SO MUCH!

    7. MERCI POUR CES EXPLICATIONS L’ABSTRAIT SE FORME LE PLUS SOUVENT SUR UNE BASE REPRESENTATIVE . MAIS ON NE PEUT FAIRE DE L’ABSTRAIT QUE . SI ON SAIT DESSINER ET PEINDRE. C’EST UN CHEMIN CLASSIQUE QUI NOUS MENE A L’ABSTRAIT. LE CHEMIN EST FORCEMENT DUR.!!!!!!!!!

    8. From a list of painting videos yours caught my eye so I decided to check it out. I was even more pleased to learn you served in the Marine Corps – no I have never done that. It was just the idea of you having done the military and then you are doing something creative. I liked your philosophy regarding painting techniques: “to make the paintings elegant is to remember very important idea that ‘Less is More'”. I love the music you chose, the way you paint and I love the painting. Good job Marine.

    9. I see many have complimented on your paintings so mine will not be an exception: brilliant! It may be boring to read after a while all of these compliments, but your paintings are not boring but inspiring. It may seem easy advice to just splash on the paint and go with the flow, but I really think it is difficult to achieve something creative and aesthetically pleasing to the eye. Great art. Well done marine! Personally, I wish you much success and seriously speaking, I love your work.

    10. I’m a painter myself, and as you already know, watching you is…inspiring. Your work is beautiful! I was wondering what your paint was, oil? And when you were using the *sponge was that just water you were using as a liquid? I so want to try something like this! But oil seems so scary! Again, I love your work and I’ve only seen the first out of many! Shannon
