Learn How To Make Beaded Jewelry

In this video tutorial one of the members from the eHow team demonstrates to us how to make a beaded necklace from start to finish using a few basic supplies.

You will need these items:

Thread snippers – These clip the thread really close to the knot

Tweezers – Used to pick up very small beads

Pliers -Primarilyused for opening and closing jump rings amongst many other useful purposes

Nail Polish – Jewelry glue can also be used but nail polish is much easier to clean up if you make a mistake

Bead Crimpers – If you are going to work with wire or crimp beads

Bead Reamer – This opens up the holes in beads where the hole has been made too small

Bead Grabbers – This is a great jewelry tool if your hands are not so nimble. You simply push the plunger at the base of the grabber and four small metal wires protrude from the other end allowing extremely easy grabbing of a bead or other small object.

Beads, beaded thread, needle and a clasp are the components you will need to end up with a final beaded item of jewelry.

To begin your beaded jewelry you must tie the thread to the end of the clasp and form a knot. Use a small dab of nail polish or jewelry glue to seal the knot and stop it from coming apart at a later date. Then thread your chosen beads onto the thread in whichever order you like making sure there are no gaps. Once you are happy that all your beads are in your preferred order then you can go ahead and tie a loose knot onto the other end of the jewelry clasp. This is where you introduce either a bent needle or a ‘knot maker’ which enables the knot to sit extremely tight in between the last bead and the clasp end. This can take some practice to master it but once you do it will be worth it. If you don’t use this method then you risk having a loose item of beaded jewelry which may unfortunately fall apart later down the line.

To finish with you simply apply another dab of nail polish to the knot to once again secure it fully and then introduce the thread snippers to cut off the two excess pieces of thread which sat by the knots.

And that is quite simply how you can make your own beaded jewelry from the comfort of your own home tailor made to your own specification.
