How to Draw – Realistic Lips And Teeth

Beginner, Drawing, Intermediate, Pencil | 30 Sep, 2012

This is an excellent video tutorial to learn how to draw lips and teeth from in a realistic way. This is quite literally a step by step video with sped up moments and great quality narration. The artist talks about cross hatching techniques and how you can expect to gain 3D depth, shading highlights and intricate detailing around the teeth and certain areas of the lips. The beginner would have no problems learning to sketch from this. An array of different softness pencils are used throughout.

    1. Or you can use pencil pressure;) i like it nevertheless though. To anybody that is new to art key things to learn: Light where it is light, dark where it is dark, and there are no actual “lines” on the face (it all fades out)

    2. I would have to disagree when you say draw “exactly” what you see from the image because everyone has a “unique style” of drawing and therefore it’ll be their own spin on it. If the drawing comes out looking like lips, but not totally exactly like the photo, I think that’s fine (and not failing) because you’re learning. With repetition you’ll improve 🙂

    3. @Onafee1849 I remember from art class that you can twist paper(any kind of thin paper like notebook paper, printer paper, etc) into any thickness and use that to blend (good for precision too!) 🙂 You can also use nose tissues, although they might be harder for smudging details.

    4. Thank you so much for the video! It helped me a lot! : )And to those who leave immature comments about the voice and other things which have nothing to do with the video, I would say that if you have actually listened to the guy you would have learned some very useful steps in drawing. Stop acting like children and show some respect.

    5. Well poop… I’m taking graphic design and currently we are in, I guess what you would call the Fine Arts portion, we aren’t doing much designing yet, just drawing right now, and lips are my worst enemy. We aren’t allowed to use blending stumps, the teacher wants us to blend only with a pencil. She says it’s so we can learn fine motor skills, she focuses on value a lot, I hope that I can make it through this lol, but I respect her for it.
