How To Draw A Detailed Dwarf (Warhammer)

In this online drawing tutorial the artist demonstrates how by using Photoshop software how you can draw a hunter dwarf from one of the races in World Of Warcraft, a popular online game. Of course you don’t have to use Photoshop to do this and can instead use a pen or pencil but for the purposes of this art video it is easier for the artist to demonstarte using this software.

He begins by drawing the entire body using a faint, thin lined pencil and explains to you how it is important to understand the basic proportions of a human being as this drawing, with it being of a dwarf, will have exaggerated and disproportionate elements about it.

Once he is happy with the proportions of his drawing he changes his tool to that od a brush which fills medium sized areas of the desired color which is in his case a mid tone grey. He fills in large areas with this mid tone to add depth to his drawing very quickly and this is an essential step in sketching for any drawing. Ascertaining your midtones is essential before you can go on to add greater detail and intricate shading with your pencils.

He then looks for texture and shadow within the drawing of the dwarf and selects a variety of tools to achieve this. This stage comes with experience and practice but is very important to gain a greater sense of realism within your drawing. Understanding where your light source is within your drawing is another very important aspect within sketching. Often artists will draw a dot somewhere on the page to indicate where the imaginary light source is and is used a a quick reference throughout the drawing. The light source is essential for knowing where to cast shadows and add highlights so make sure you get into the habit of knowing this before proceeding with your art work.

The artist also suggests you using charcoal and smooth paper as a great alternative to draw the hunter dwarf. With there being large areas of shadow to be covered, the use of a willow or chalk pastel would compliment this very well. A white chalk would really bring out the crucial highlights too like on certain areas of the dwarf’s face and beard.

This online tutorial serves as a great reference for the beginner artist to learn from and firmly highlights the key ingredients needed for a quality drawing or sketch. Understanding shading, tone, highlights and proportions are all essential elements for securing a detailed and correct drawing so take not of the advice on offer to you in this art tutorial. 1. I started doing this in my latest stuff. I’m getting use to painting over everything rather than having multiple layers that you can end up getting lost in. It also feels a ton more natural and it’s easy to do once you get the hang of it.

    2. I have no idea what artists you are referring to. It is the painterly way, not coloring inside the outline. It is totally up to you because you have to paint what you like the see. You have to know what kind of the end result you want.

    4. I really love your tutorials! Yours are pretty unique, because you often show how to paint good pictures in near real-time. Speedpaintings are amazing, but it’s nearly impossible to follow them. They are just to provoke awe (which they usually do when I watch them). Your videos are varied, so I can get many things from them. Please keep up this type of tutorial, too!I haven’t drawn for about 2 months, but I’m gonna try to learn more this year. I might buy one of your tutorials sometime.
