Sam Boeger: Dexter Painting
Sam Boeger takes on TV personality ‘Dexter’. She tapes off areas and splatters red acrylic paint to look like blood and reflect his personality as a killer. For the face, she then moves on to using black ink in her airbrush to get a life-like result. And as I’m sure you’ll agree the result certainly isn’t a bad one. Great skills.
3D Airbrushing Technique Of An Eye With Wings – Fantastic!
Do you want to know how the professionals take on a 3D picture with an airbrush? Well this art tutorial shows an embossed image of an eye with wings either side of it and how you can expect to take on the airbrushing detailing to make it appear three dimensional and realistic.
He grabs his airbrush and at a distance of around 2 inches he sprays the highlights directly into the highest areas of the embossed image but also in the regions where you would expect to see tints and lighter areas and is a good example of how an artist uses his/her artistic license to create a design. The correct term for the type of stroke he uses on the wings with the white spray paint is ‘dagger strokes’ which is basically a series of small sharp strokes which give great direction and gradual build up of contrast and color depth in specific isolated areas. The same technique is adhered to with the black spray paint to tidy up the areas of white which may have been a little overdone and this is just a standard practice for touching up and finishing an are to make it look look clean and complete.
A circular stencil is used to create a sharp edge for the iris on the eye and forms the basis for him to come in with different applications and styles showing how to layer the paint to build up a realistic eye. He uses red candy as his color to get extremely detailed ‘blood shot’ effect and demonstrates just how much control can be achieved through experience with an airbrush.
The video clip is very well presented and ticks all the correct boxes for someone who wishes to start out as a trainee airbrush artist.
