    1. How the… How do you do that man! Its just awesome to see a painting turn up looking real. As soon as you just started that cloud it already started looking good. You can just tell that its going to turn out great. I didn’t even skip to the good part, because its way too fun watching it go down step by step on paper.

    2. @xearbooks yes when you use oil paint you need some sort of cleaner, water and soapwill not clean the same as a thinner, I Use Turpenoid, it is a turpentine substitute. with no odor you want to use an artist grade of thinner. But there are all kinds of paint thinners and cleaners out there.hope this helps,Michael

    6. I realize this video is old now, but thanks for posting it anyway! It’s hard to find useful painting videos on YouTube. And also, as a Southerner who is currently living outside the U.S. your accent was a very welcome surprise.

    7. Hi Michael,I have just started painting with oils and am following your video to paint my first picture. One problem I had is that while painting the clouds, the bristles kept falling out of my brush. It was VERY frustrating and I almost quit in disgust! I finally had to use only my fingers and the clouds actually look good, but they are wispy and don’t look like yours that much. I guess my brushes are cheap. What kind of brush should I use?Catie

    8. Another problem I am having is the paint smudging. After I painted the brown trees, I tried to go over them with the green and all the colors ran together and became muddy. How do you paint wet on wet without ruining everything? I thinned the green a little with the linseed oil, but it didn’t work. Thanks,Catie

    9. You paint the back round then wait for it to dry then a couple days later paint the trees, or if you use little paint and spread it as much as possible like what he did it should work. I just paint the back round then wait for it to dry then paint in the trees and stuff. It isn’t acrylic so it will take a couple day.

    12. Hi Michael ! Thanks for the great demo. It has really helped me a lot. BUt , I am finding some problems while painting. How do your colours superpose on a background clour so easily? For me, when I have drawn the sky, and over it the shadow of trees, it becomes really difficult to make a sharp tree trunk. The colour just gets diffused. Similarly. I could not get sharp leaf like pattern when I drew the trees over the blue sky background.Kindly help me in this regard.Thanks.

    13. It’s so hard painting using oil colors! I ignorantly went to a craft store and picked out oil paint, not knowing the difference between water colors, acrylic etc… And I got home and tried them out and UGH! I had no idea what I was doing. The colors kept getting messed and the paint wouldn’t flow… Thanks a lot for this video !

    17. Excuse me, you said you used your paint straight from the tube, right? I tried that but the paint was way too thick to use. It got stuck on the brush as a big blob. So is it just the kind of oil paint I have that makes it so thick or is it that I’m doing something wrong? I really don’t understand…

    18. hi there, i think there is something else that you need to mix with the oil paint to make it solvent. what i did is hire an artist so i can also be introduced to the basic understanding of the different materials being used, how it should be used and also know why it should be this and that.

    19. You paint very well, but may I make one suggestion? Your easel is not perfectly level with the floor, and that causes it to knock as you paint. It is very distracting. Even for my TV show, I use the back of a 6′ wooden step ladder as my easel (modified of course), and what I did to alleviate the noise was to use a small wooden shim I purchased at Lowe’s to put under one leg of the ladder. Works perfect. And keep painting, my friend.

    21. when it comes to cleaning the brushes, I guess you need some kind of special liquid? I’m having bulb of picture varnish glossy here, a friend of mine said that he had never painted with oil before but knew that you could not use water when cleaning of and mixing. I guess that if you clean you need something else then water, but with mixing do you need the liquid for that as well? since I see that you just mix them all on on brush without putting the brush in any liquid.
