A Time Lapsed Speed Painting Titled ‘Our Endless Abnegation’

In this tutorial the artist uses a variety of mediums including, watercolor, pencil, pen, charcoal and acrylic to compose a painting which through male and female interaction and an explosion of colors shows the eternal denial which we as humans possess and take through life with us.

The painting is time lapsed but offers a fantastic insight into how a painting consisting of various layers and different mediums in undertaken from the beginning to the end. The artist begins with a medium sized rounded brush making sure all the major areas of the male face are covered but it is her use of vivid colors and intentional application with the inks and watercolors which allow the painting to take form very quickly. Further dousing with a larger sized round brush takes her into the corners and surrounding areas of the male and female face with yet more striking colors which starts to tie the painting together with marvellous consistency and intention.

She achieves her finer detailing through the use of watercolor crayons, pencil crayons and pen but it is the way she keeps her style loose and breezy by navigating evenly around the page which allows for her painting to retain a feeling of completeness. This is a great tutorial to learn from and a fine example of how a whole wealth of mediums can come together in harmony with the right application and composition.

    3. Its funny how people draw a bunch of random shapes on a page and make hundreds of thousands out of one piece then these people make something both realistic and emotional as well as imaginative, then struggle to make ends meet.

    4. you are an amazing artist. I pale in comparison (even though I do a different type of art). If you’d ever consider doing a canvas trade, or even on paper like this one, please let me know. Also, if this is for sale, let me know as well.

    5. Hi Agnes, Your works are amazing and very inspiring. What type of pen were you using at 4:55+? When did you apply the Acrylics and Charcoal. I also saw you using some coloured pens (yellow). What type of pens are they? I will be very grateful if you can provide me with those answers. Thanks. Amazing works. I am so scared of colours when painting.

    6. It’s truly amazing what you do. I used to think of water colors as cheap child’s paints, but now, after seeing you work, it makes me realize that I’ve been missing out on and extravagant world to explore that truly captures my imagination and soul. You have really inspired me to become a better artist myself, Though I have a long way to go. Keep up the amazing work and inspire more amazing things for other to adore.

    11. 1.pick a picture2.lightly outline on watercolor paper with pencil. 3. fill in the main image with a refined brush. build up dark areas slowly.4.Use a thicker brush to dynamically apply splotches of color around the faces and flowing from them. This can be very difficult because you need to develop an aesthetic sense for color flow and balance.5. Use additional techniques such as tilting the image, flicking the brush, adjusting areas using watercolor pencils, highlight using shiny gel pens

    17. Love how the girl in the painting has the same color hair as the young lady painting it. Beautiful. Halfway through I was like “oh she’s done, it’s so pretty and soft” and I checked and there was still so much time left.. At the end it was so bold and defined, it was an entirely different painting.

    21. The paper doesn’t warp because she probably soaks it and stretches it before painting. Most watercolor paper less than 300 lbs needs to soak for awhile. Most of the time I let mine sit over night. Then take your drawing board and some kraft paper tape that is water activated and tape one side of the paper to the board and wipe with a sponge to wipe the excess water off as you pull the paper tight and tape the other side. Hope this helps… I believe there are a couple of videos for this.

Artist are a bit like magicians, and don’t want to always reveal all their tricks. Keep up the amazing work! You are such an inspiration!

    27. This is awesome, im a painter myself and really enjoy your work, especially “about a new place”. Recently i’ve started painting portraits and its a great feeling when you can perfect the facial structure, because then you can just play around with random abstract and colors while blending them in with the face. Keep up the awesome work, im a fan!-Abst
